Maruti Suzuki Ignis
(The estimated price is between 5-7 lakhs. And planned to be released on January 2017)
Exterior interior and Engine specs
With no doubts the manufacturer made several new features both in the exterior and interior of the car . Dramatic features such as the front fascia with its sunglass-clad look, the shell-like roof, and the attractive slits on the C-pillar accentuate its exterior. The Maruti Ignis will measure 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, 1,595mm in height, 2435mm in wheelbase and feature 180mm of ground clearance. The car will also get LED daytime running lights.
Interior designs and features include, automatic climate control, a modern touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system equipped with USB and BlueTooth connectivity, reverse parking sensors and a multifunction steering wheel. The Ignis will be very similar to the Swift in terms of equipment.
When it comes to the performance the India-spec Ignis will receive the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The petrol engine makes 83bhp and 115Nm of torque while the diesel makes 74bhp and 190Nm of torque in the Swift. The figures may vary in the Ignis as it could get a different state of tune. It may get an optional CVT gearboox.
Tata Hexa
(Price estimated between 13-18 lakhs. This could also hit for the sales on earlier part of january 2017)
Engine and key specs
Under the hood, you will have the Varicor 400 – a 2.2-litre turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine – that develops 154bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. The Hexa may well turn out to be the most powerful SUV in its segment and will get a six-speed manual transmission. The Hexa may also get the all-wheel-drive option like the Aria.
Inside the car, Tata has gone all black with silver coloured accents to give the interior a premium feel. It gets automatic climate control with a separate zone AC for the rear and third row passengers. The cabin is roomy and looks like the third row should be able to allow full-size adults to sit comfortably. The top-spec car will get leather upholstery, steering mounted controls for the infotainment system, electrically adjustable and retractable outside rear view mirrors. The audio system gets a display screen and seems to be sourced from the Zest.
Jeep Compass
(Range between 23-27 lakhs in price .Expected to hit the roads on later half of 2017 )
Features and performance
Jeep took a really long time to kick off their Indian voyage and after the launch of the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee, it seems that the American SUV maker has unfurled all its sails. Jeep has declared that an entirely new compact SUV would be assembled and exported from India as a part of the ‘Make in India’ campaign. The compact SUV, codename 551, will be the Jeep Compass and can be expected to be launched in India by the end of 2017 if not 2018.
While the Compass is set to get about 17 powertrain options globally, for India we will have the 170bhp 2.0-litre Multijet II engine from Fiat to power the Jeep. It will come mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and will have the famed Jeep four-wheel-drive. It might have a petrol variant as well.
Tata Nexon
(Nexon comes with a price tag ranging between 6.5-9 lakhs. It is expected to be launched in march 2017)
Features and Performance
We can safely presume that this baby SUV from Tata could be visually built around the design cues of the Zest and Bolt while retaining the dimensional strengths of the present segment contenders like the EcoSport and TUV300.
Tata might carry on with the successful 1.3-litre multijet diesel with the output of 90bhp at 4,000rpm and torque of 200Nm at 1,750-3,000rpm. While a five-speed manual transmission will be available, we may also get to taste the five-speed AMT gearbox too. Petrol power will be supplied from the 1.2-litre motor that presently powers the Zest and Bolt. 90bhp at 5,000rpm along with 140Nm at 1,500-4,000rpm is what this engine generates and will be mated to a five-speed manual box.
Chevrolet Essentia
(Ranges between 4.5-7 lakhs. The manufacturers have planned to release it on early part of February 2017)
Features and Performance
The insides should continue being futuristic with the blue backlit instrument cluster with a digital speedometer and tachometer. While leather upholstery would be a tough ask for this budget car, cabin space would probably be better if the rear seats are pushed back owing to the boot.
Under the hood, you may get the same 936cc three cylinder turbocharged diesel engine developing 57bhp of power. The 1.2-litre petrol engine will be retained and both the engines will power the front wheels through a five speed manual gearbox.

The Ignis, which comes from the parent car manufacturer Suzuki, will make its India debut at the Auto Expo. The car was first showcased as the Suzuki iM-4 concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and later unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show.
